Holland America Line

Cunard Cruise Lines

The British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Company was founded in 1839 by Samuel Cunard principally to carry the Royal Mail between Britain and North America, and in doing so inaugurated in 1840 the first timetabled steamship service across the Atlantic Ocean.

The company, which became known as Cunard Line, acquired White Star Line in 1935. Among the best known Cunard liners are Carpathia, famous for rescuing survivors of the ill-fated Titanic; Mauretania, which for 22 years held the “Blue Riband” for the fastest Atlantic crossing; Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, which carried between them over 1.5 million troops during World War II; and Queen Elizabeth 2, recognized as the most famous ship in the world.

Today, Queen Mary 2 maintains the legacy of her Cunard and White Star forbearers in providing the only scheduled transatlantic liner service. The $800-million ship is regarded as the most extraordinary passenger liner ever built. The superb quality and exacting care with which she was built will ensure that she is the ultimate in ocean travel for years to come.

When Cunard’s Queen Victoria, a 90,000-ton luxury vessel, is delivered in 2007, the line will operate a fleet of three Queens for the first time in its distinguished history. Each will cater to sophisticated, well-seasoned travellers who enjoy the cultured atmosphere of classic luxury liners along with every modern amenity.

Cunard Line is a proud member of World’s Leading Cruise Lines. The executive alliance also includes Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Costa Cruises, Windstar Cruises and The Yachts of Seabourn. Sharing a passion to please each guest, and a commitment to quality and value, member lines appeal to a wide range of lifestyles and budgets.
